Rick Mazzetti, despite his job as a detective in the Exceptional Crimes Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department, was normally a very peaceful guy. He disliked violence, believed in following the rules, and would never knowingly break a law.

But he’s now under arrest for murder, mass hypnosis, and sufficient petty larceny that in the aggregate it constituted grand theft. Rick swore he was innocent, and now it was up to Ava Storm, Scry Witch and part-time consultant to the ECU to find out whether Rick was a master criminal or just another victim of a vast magical conspiracy.
